The design incorporates the prevailing Peak Tram station, the terminus of a venerable funicular railway that opened in 1888 to ferry the elite for their houses on The Peak.

The stations streamlined present day design is accented by using a curved aluminum and stork stainless-metal cladding, whilst the interior is completed in a clear, monochromatic palette.
